Can my cat with IBD and diabetes take buprenorphine and prednisolone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 2 months old | 9 lbs

Can I administer buprenorphine with prednisolone for a cat that has IBD (it was used before) and now has diabetes (not sure if it is steroid induced yet) but he is in pain and I would like to help him once he lets me near him to give him the insulin. I would like to give him pain meds (buprenorphine) as well to ease the pain.

Yes all of those medications can be given together. It will be important to consider other treatment options for the IBD if he is diabetic. Steroids will make it more difficult to manage the Diabetes. There are other types of steroids and/or options for IBD if needed. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
