Why is my senior dog's vestibular disease back? She's collapsing and won't eat.

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 30 lbs

Hi. dog, 14, diagnosed vestibular. Cleared up; month later is back. It has already been 3 days and she is showing stability when standing, but this time, when picking her up, (not always but a couple of times) she has stopped moving as if brain not functioning. If I try to put her in a standing position on the ground she falls over but then snaps out of it. Also she won't eat normal diet (of 10 years) of fresh-cooked chicken, but quickly eats up hotdogs. Thank you for your service -Neill

Hi, it is difficult to tell 100% if the symptoms are related to a peripheral vestibular syndrome or a central vestibular syndrome, as with the peripheral one (affecting the inner ear only) you can have disorientation as well..only advanced imaging will be able to tell if it is just a problem related to the inner ear or if the brain could be affected too. If unable to undergo imaging, then you will have to wait and see what happens, encourage her to eat, mix fresh cooked chicken with hotdog. Have anti sickness medications if necessary, and/or everything else recommended by your vet. Hope this helps !
