Why is my senior dog having diarrhea, vomiting, and gasping?

My dog is an 8 year lab. A few weeks ago she started with diarrhea and threw up a few times. I thought it may have just been a stomach bug because she got better and a few days later she had diarrhea again and made an accident in the House because she could not hold it. She has not been herself lately she still eats and drinks water like normal. I bought her some probiotics to take and gave her one tonight and tonight she was gasping for air. She seems fine now I’m just really worried.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. You need to seek veterinary care for her. Her symptoms have gone on long enough that they will unlikely resolve without treatment. The difficulty breathing is worrisome as well. She will need fecal testing and possibly laboratory work depending on her exam findings. Based on these results, treatment can be prescribed. I would discuss the probiotic with your veterinarian as well. There is a large variation in quality and some have actually been found to contain pathogenic bacteria.
