Why is my cat running crazy, twitching, licking, and panting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 10 months and 3 days old | 4.41 lbs

Skye was fine today, after her dinner she started to run like CRAZY and lik her back right side and hide under the bed, didn't let me touch her. When she stops running she'd have her mouth open and hang her tongue out, then run, hide again. She was on her condo, when I got closed she took off running and her skin was twitching a little. No new food or any changes. Thank you

The skin twitching and running can be a sign of fleas or skin irritation, and occasionally cats will display an extreme version of this with feline hyperesthesia syndrome. The open mouth breathing is a little concerning - this is usually a sign of cardiac or respiratory disease although occasionally some cats will breathe with their mouths open when they are very excited. If you see any labored breathing or the open mouth breathing continues I’d recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian.
