Why is my dog grinding her teeth at night? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 11 months and 25 days old | 12 lbs

my dog (1 yr old maltipoo, 10 lbs), frequently grinds her teeth at night. Very strange sound, can't see what exactly she is doing. She looks to have lost all baby teeth, but still chews a great deal. What could this be??

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely a sign of teeth pain. If this continues, I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check the mouth to see for any possible reasons so that therapy if needed can be started. This may be transient so hopefully that is the case and she does great. Best of luck!
