My dog is oversleeping and dizzy from new meds. Is the dose too high?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 16 years and 5 months old | 100 lbs

I would like to know if these prescriptions are prescribed in the same manner as they have been for my dog, bc I feel like I’m giving her too much?! She’s a 14yr old yellow lab and weighs 100+/-lbs. I took her in on 11-19 bc she suddenly lost control of her bowels and was peeing blood.. but, she’s been over sleeping, dizzy, and hasn’t moved from her bed since the meds.

Both of hear medications are within the published dose ranges for a dog Kimber’s size, but gabapentin can sometimes cause sedation and this could be the culprit. You may want to give your vet a call and see if they might recommend reducing the dose or even skipping a dose.
