Why is my new puppy shivering, low energy, and bloated after guests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Papillon | Female | 3 months and 14 days old | 2.3 lbs

Today My puppy was shivering intermittently and is low energy. She isn’t crying as much, jumping or playing as heavily. I am concerned that her belly seems a little bit bloated and she did not take the usual number of poos. She is eating, drinking, moderately which is normal. The sudden shaking is new today. We had guests over for the holiday today and there was change to her routine. Papillon Breed, only 4 days in her new home. Vet visit yesterday and she was healthy.

A change in routine, guests she did not know, new things, new food (I am sure your guests gave her treats from the table), all that can cause her to be irritated, and a little out of it. All of this is very strenuous for a puppy, and it just may need some rest to work things out. I would monitor her closely, put her into a quiet place with some water and not feed her anymore today. Emphasize to your guests not to give her any treats. If she is not back to her usual self by tomorrow noon, you may want to give her some boiled white rice and boneless chicken. If she does not eat, she needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam as she may be getting ill.
