Why is my male cat peeing often with little output after vet check?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 14.5 lbs

Male cat frequent trips to litter box but little to no pee is seen...2 trips to vet...vet says small bladder but no obstruction. blood tests are all normal, x rays are completely clear, no blood in urine and doesn't seem to be in pain, but cat has lost 1/2 lb. in about a month. What to do now? I'm worried about cancer. Amoxi helps for awhile, but symptoms return.

Poor guy. I too would be concerned about possible cancer. The next step would be to get an abdominal ultrasound to look for other possible causes such as cancer. Cats can also just get cystitis, which caused inflammation of the bladder due to stress. This is typically treated with a prescription urinary food and often-times anti-anxiety medication. We suspect this when we see microscopic blood on the urinalysis, along with straining and frequent trips to the litterbox. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951488 I hope that your fur baby feels better soon! Best wishes and take care!
