My 4-week-old Pomeranian puppy is constipated. How to help her poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 1 month old | 0.8 lbs

I have a 4 week old Pomeranian who is 8 ounces. She is having trouble pooping. I have tried a tablespoon of pumpkin plain purée, I have given her a little olive oil,and an enema. After the enema she pooped a little. I have not put her on gruel yet. She does seem to be hungry when I feed her every 3 to 4 hours. Having Sid all that, how do I get her to poop after each meal?

I would start her on gruel which will help form bigger stools. Often as puppies age they do not defecate as often so she may not go after every meal. As long as she’s eating and feeling normal with no bloating she should be fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your puppy.
