My cat has seizures. Can I safely give her CBD oil and antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 14 years and 6 months old | 11.2 lbs

can I give my cat CBD oil and antibiotics together? my cat was just diagnosed with chronic kidney failure stage 2. She also had a seizure back in June, another again on Thursday and then another last night. She is acting very normal right now. The vet does not know why she is having seizures. She is 14.5 years old. Thank you!

Hi there! As long as the CBD oil is labeled for use in cats, I have often used it in both cats and dogs as adjunctive therapy for different ailments. I haven't had any problems prescribing different antibiotics at the same time as the CBD oil. Keep in mind, it may or may not help the seizures, but it definitely can't hurt (as long as it's labeled for use in cats to avoid toxic reactions of any kind). I hope you find this answer helpful! Best of luck! Also, this is the brand we carry: http://sevenleafpets.com/

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Mila is having seizures, she will need to be on a anti seizure medication when she discontinues nursing. Many anti seizure medications have not been tested on nursing puppies and therefore are labeled to use with caution in these animals or just wait until they are a bit older. CBD oil has not yet been proven to help prevent seizures in dogs. Although giving CBD oil will not hurt, it may not necessarily help treat or prevent seizures in Mila's case.
