My cat has stress colitis and won't take liquid medicine. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 2 days old | 8 lbs

So my cat had blood and mucus in her stool and she would drip blood after using the litter, the vet said it could be stress colitis and gave me liquid Metronidazole to give her. I tried giving it to her but she spits it all back up. Not sure how to go about this

I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled white fish/chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. Probiotics can be given as well. These type of colitis can be self limiting, but if persistent antibiotics can be given by injection as well. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
