Do I need to transition dog food when switching familiar flavors?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 25 lbs

When giving my dog new food, I do a transition. But if I switch from one blend to another (both of which he’s had before), do I need to do a transition every time? Like if he’s successfully had a lamb blend and chicken blend of a type of kibble before, do I need to do a full transition every time I switch flavors?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. If he has had both flavors in the past, you shouldn't need to transition every time you switch. However, if he develops any vomiting or diarrhea, then he will need the more gradual transition. I hope this information helps!
