How to safely bathe my blind, skittish, senior Boston Terrier?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 16 years and 8 months old | 13 lbs

Hello, I need advice on how to properly bathe a totally blind 16 yr old Boston, whom I've had for 15 yrs, weighs around 12 or 13 pounds. She has adjusted over the past 5 years but is a little disoriented sometimes, skidish when you reach down to pick her up, etc. I barely can clip her toenails anymore....but bathing? Oh boy! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you and God bless....have a wonderful evening...Jami

I would put a non slip mat in the tub or sink so she won’t slip and fall. I would put a chest harness on her so you have a good hold on her during the bath. Use warm water and massage her while bathing to help her relax. Rinse her well and snuggle her in a warm towel to dry her. Hopefully if you keep hold of her and give a spa like treatment it will go well. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Sami.
