My old guinea pig has bite marks from a new one. How to stop fighting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 9 years and 1 month old

My guinea pig is pretty old, 9 years, he had a roommate of 6 but recently passed away so I had gotten new guinea pig ro prevent lonliness. I have had piggies pass in the past so my oldest has been through some grief. But it seems as if the new piggie and my oldest doesn’t get along as well as I thought. I found, what I believe, is bite marks on my oldest piggie’s back. I don’t see worms, it’s not infected, it’s just scabed over. Is there anything I could do to help the healing and the fighting?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like bite marks. If it has already scabbed over then it is likely going to heal on its own. They may be too different from an age standpoint and it may be best to keep them separate to avoid a similar situation in the future. Good luck!
