My 12-year-old dog has DM. Could his head tilt be a new health issue?

Our 12 year-old, large, mixed-breed dog has been diagnosed with degenerative myliopathy. Recently he has been tilting his head when we pet him. Is this a part of DM or a new health concern?

That is not a common sign of DM. Usually they get progressive weakness in the rear legs leading to paralysis, and it moves up the body. Generally there are no head signs. A head tilt is often from an ear infection, or old dog vestibular disease. I would have him checked by your veterinarian to see if there is a treatment they recommend after they diagnose the cause.
