My dog is limping, paw hurts, but not broken. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

My dog was overexcited and in competition with our other dog to get to the door. A neighbor's chiwaua came by and wanted in and Frankie not sure how ended up with his paw hurt. He's been limping. I'm feeling around to find out where he hurts. He normally hates his paws to be touched. He's a rescue and was secerly mistreated. I don't think anything is broken because I would think he would be extremely upset when I touch his paw. What do I do for him . What other things could it be if no broken

Frankie could have a soft tissue injury to his paw or elsewhere on his leg. He could also have a wound on the bottom of his paw, something stuck in his paw or even a toenail injury. If he continues to limp I would recommend having your vet examine him. Even though it seems like nothing is broken they may still recommend x-rays.
