Why is my active dog constantly hungry and always begging for food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 38.801 lbs

My dog seems starving constantly? She’s currently on purina beta adult chicken, 20kg recommendation amount. She gets a snack most days on top but always looks for more and will beg or try to steal. When a pup she was on the 25kg adult weight guess but I took this down as she only weighed 17kg at 11 months. She’s quite active and the food contains wheat, grain and soya that weims sometimes have issues with. Could this be the problem or does she simply need more protein? Ingredients in the pic.

Do you think her body weight is appropriate? If she is underweight, she can eat more. If she is normal, you may consider putting her food in treat or puzzle toys so that it takes her longer to eat. She may also be looking for attention. Help her get in more play time or do obedience training to give her mind something to do. If she still seems really hungry, you can try feeding a weight loss food at higher amounts - they usually have more fiber so that it fills the dog up without adding extra calories.
