Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 11 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs
My 11 year old poodle, about 10lbs, has been coughing excessively. I have three other dogs and none of them are experiencing any discomfort and they are not ever exposed to strange dogs. He has never been boarded or taken to a dog park and is an inside dog- only goes to our back yard to go potty. I have an audio clip of the coughing if needed but what can I do to alleviate his cough or is this something I should worry about. Coughing sounds like gagging or trying to cough something up.

I would be concerned at almost 12 years old he may have a heart condition. I would recommend bringing him to your veterinarian to have them listen to him. If he has a heart murmur the next step would be taking him to a cardiologist to determine what is exactly going on with Piccolo's heart and if medication is needed. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
