My cockatiel has an irregular heartbeat. Can diet or supplements help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 7 yr old cockatiel was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat at his annual wellness check. The vet didn’t seem overly concerned about it but I’m worried. Is there a supplement, vegetable or herb I can give him that may help? He is on a mainly pellet diet with fresh greens & is otherwise quite fit & healthy & has free range of the house. I know I should’ve asked the vet at the time but I think I was too shocked having just lost my green cheek conure. Thank you!

Thanks for reaching out. A mild arrhythmia is not unusual and might not be a consistent problem. Stress can often induce arrhythmias and a recheck appointment in 4-6 months should be scheduled to re-assess the condition. Unfortunately, this is probably not a dietary deficiency situation, so no food additives are recommended, especially since you have him on a healthy diet. Good luck.
