My cat has a pink bump and scabs near her ear. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has a light pink bump near her ear but not inside of it. There is also what appears to look like red little scabs as well. I'm wondering if this is something that can ease away on its own or with the help of home remedies you could recommend? Or does this need to be seen by a vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The most likely cause for scabs and bumps in that location is scratching due to itchiness, and the most common cause for this is either ear mites or fleas. I recommend using a cat safe flea/mite product. I would otherwise leave the bumps alone, and do not apply any products. If the flea/mite treatment doesn't work, then I would have her seen by a vet to see if there is a different cause. Best of luck with Lydia!
