My cat has a swollen face near his ear. What can I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 11 months old

My cat got this ping-pong size swelling on his right side of face just below his ear since few days ago. It is non tender. He looks normal, no growling, good appetite but became less active today, more sleep. I can only bring him to vet on this coming Tuesday. What can I do to relieve the swelling in the meantime? Is warm compression could be helpful? Thanks.

Even though the swelling is non-painful an abscess would be most likely. It is also possible that Cik Ning has a skin growth or an enlarged lymph node in this area. A warm compress certainly wouldn't hurt, and I think that is probably the main thing you would be able to do at home to hopefully help with comfort before your visit.
