My gecko has a white spot under chin after shedding. Is a vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Gecko | Female

When I was checking up on the animals today I noticed Aurora has a white spot under her chin. She shed yesterday, but it isn’t loose skin. I’m not sure how long it’s been there, but should I take her in to be seen?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). I would recommend to monitor it for the moment to see if it spreads or resolve at all. Should it deteriorate (bigger, more spots or swollen), a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) may be needed to solve the problem. In the meantime you can swab the infected area with a diluted povidone-iodine solution twice daily.
