Why does my scared Siamese cat hide and shed fur when picked up?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed

I have a 8 yr old Siamese and ever since we got her she hasn't been frightened of us and pretty much anything. Was curious to know why this might be we have tried speaking quietly and letting her come to us but the smallest of movements she takes off running to her bed or to our other cat and hides behind him. Anytime we pat her she moves away or if we pick her up she meows deeply, freezes and sheds fur like crazy and we aren't sure why she does this.

Some cats just don't like people. Try to find something she does like and do that more. Maybe playing with a toy on a string or a laser pointer. Feed her treats from your hand. Work on obedience training her teach her a trick. Don't pick her up - this is a very unnatural behavior for animals and one that can make them feel like they are in danger. Shedding fur is normal. You can see if Kiara likes being brushed and do that more often to remove loose hairs. If she is developing hair mats due to decrease grooming, or patches of skin are showing through, she should be examined by a vet for possible causes.
