My senior dog has a dark lump that shrinks with ice. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 15 lbs

My dog has a dark lump on him. He is a 10 year dog. He is a Maltese and a poodle mixed. I noticed it about a month ago. There has been no growth. It seems to go down with ice. I'm not sure what it is , or how to treat it. Thank you.

I would recommend that you have a vet check out this lump on Snowball. I am concerned that the pigmentation may mean that it could be a cancerous growth. Dogs can get melanoma, and mast cell tumors can get large and shrink repeatedly. The vet may do a needle biopsy to collect cells for examination under a microscope or recommend removing the entire lump to submit to a lab for a final diagnosis.
