My dog with parvo vomited medicine. Should I give it to him again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 25 days old | 34 lbs

Hi my dog was tested positive for parvo and I have medication from the vet to treat to him. However he is constantly vomiting so after I give him his medicine ( 2 pills, liquid) he vomits 30 minutes later. Should I give him to medicine again? Also part of the medicine came out in the vomit so I’m not sure what to do.

I would not recommend residing the medication since it is impossible to know how much he may have absorbed. You may want to ask your vet if injectable medications might be an option, or if there are other anti-nausea medications to try. I’m hoping Charlie makes a full recovery!

Assuming it's Parvo, the most important part of treatment is fluids. However, I would not recommend giving this, or other treatment without the advice of a professional. Unfortunately, we cannot (legally and ethically) advise medication without having an established patient-doctor relationship. It is also dangerous for us to advise medication without examining your dog and fully understanding his condition and medical history. While you may highly suspect Parvo, there are other conditions that appear similar and the treatment could be completely different than what you suspect. Also, no medication is completely safe and it's possible that he could have an adverse reaction to the proposed medications, which could make things much worse than they were before. For these reasons, it's always best to only give medication as directed by your veterinarian. It's encouraging that he is drinking and stopped throwing up. If this is Parvo, then this would be a good indication that he is on the mend and should start eating soon. You may try offering different food that is especially tasty. I hope that helps and he gets better soon.
