Why is my unspayed cat suddenly aggressive, hissing and attacking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

My cat she is a little over one and she never hisses at us only if she doesn't know you she will and she doesn't attack anyone even when we play she doesn't use her claws on us but all of a sudden this morning she is hissing at us everytime she sees us and will attack us and we have no idea why. She has been in heat a lot lately but she isn't in heat today.

Hello. If you are not planning on breeding Booger, than please consider spaying her. She may be experiencing some wild hormonal imbalances, especially if she has developed cystic ovaries. Removing the source of the hormones may settle her down considerably. You can also try using the feline appeasing pheromone, Feliway that can help calm a cat. This is available at all retail pet shops. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
