Are my cat's scratch injuries worse due to new food? Should I stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 months and 21 days old | 9 lbs

Skye has some scratch injuries from playing rough. The blurryest of the pics is the newest. The others are older. Her temple and under her eye have turned more pink throughout today. She is already on antibiotics. Only new thing is she was given the refridgerated food for the 1st time today. Could her injuries have gotten worse bc she could be allergic to the new food? She has a vet appt in 4 days. Shes acting normally. Should I stop giving her the new food?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. One day (or honestly any number of days) of a new food is very unlikely to worsen injuries. If you’re worried, simply stop and go back to the other food. But more likely it is just a natural part of the healing process such as the natural inflammation associated with a wound or the scab coming off. If it gets worse or worrisome to you, see your vet sooner. Otherwise, keep your appointment for 4 days from now. Best wishes to you and Skye!
