My hamster is lethargic and not drinking. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | 9 months and 12 days old

My hamster is about 12 weeks old and seems to always be sat in the corner of his cage. he didn’t do this before but now he’s just sat there as still as a statute and isn’t drinking much water. He doesn’t want any attention at all. He doesn’t run on his wheel like he usually does. He doesn’t climb through the tunnels we give him and when we put him in his exercise ball he usually loves it but now he just lies there. Do I take him to the vets? Is he okay? Is that Normal?

Thanks for reaching out about Travis. It is highly recommended that you take Travis to the veterinarian. With him being lethargic, not eating much and not drinking well, it sounds as if she is very sick. Trying to get her to drink some water might attempt to re-hydrate her. Good luck.
