Is the bald spot under my cat's chin caused by her collar?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 6 months old | 15 lbs

My cat has a small bald spot under her chin, the skin looks healthy, and there hasn’t been any changes in her behavior. I’m wondering if the collar might be the cause (as I noticed it when the collar was removed).

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes this can actually occur due to the collar being on not even necessarily due to being tight. I think it would be reasonable to remove the collar and perhaps use a harness and put the ID tag on that one. You may do this to see if the hair grows back. There is a good chance that it will. Good luck!
