My dog is scratching her back. Is it a hot spot? What do I do?

I am sorry to hear about Gigi! It sounds like she could possibly have what we call a "hot spot" which is a superficial infection of the skin. I would recommend making an appointment for her to see a vet to examine the area to ensure this is what is going on and get treatment. Most often we shave the area with clippers and clean with antibacterial shampoo, and then treat either with topical antibiotic/steroids or oral medications depending on the severity.
