Cat attacked my hamster. What do I do for an injured hamster?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | unspayed

My cat got into my hamsters cage this weekend, we’re not sure when but we found her this morning scared solid. She wouldn’t move when we picked her up, we thought she was dead. But now she’s moving but doesn’t have the same energy she had before. I don’t see any obvious limping or large wounds. But there is one spot on her back that clearly had blood but I can only see a small scab. She also has some red (looked like stool) on her underside when I picked her up but i can’t find it or a source

Thanks for reaching out about Smores. Cat bites and scratches can often lead to significant infections, as both carry bacteria that can contaminate wounds. Providing water through a syringe if Smores is not drinking, can provide well needed hydration until an appointment can be made with a veterinarian. A bite or scratch wound will often need to be treated with systemic antibiotics. Good luck.
