My puppy won't pee in the yard after new plants. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 9 days old

Aries has been really good about relieving himself in the yard but I noticed that when I put new plants in a new area, he’s hesitant to go in the yard and relieves himself on the cement (which is a no-no). At first I placed Lavender in the ground, thought the Lavender was annoying him so I removed them. This evening I placed 2 pots in the same spot and again, just like the Lavender he wouldn’t go on the grass. My yard is essentially a square, could it be that he feels enclosed?

It may be an issue with the scent of the plants, or it may simply be the change in his environment that makes Aries nervous. You could try using Adaptil, which is a pheromone that helps with anxiety. Spray the pots and the ground around them to see if that makes a difference. It may or may not help, but it is worth trying. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3307+11260+37238&pcatid=37238
