Why is my new kitten's stomach bloated, lethargic, and underweight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 3 days old

Just received this kitten a couple of days ago. His stomach seems to be bloated and he seems to be lethargic, was wondering what could the bloating possibly be from ?When I bathed him I also noticed he seems to be underweight. I also was told his mom abandoned him and he was bottle feed. However, he eats well, and poops after eating.

The most common cause is usually intestinal parasite infection. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Amaru should be dewormed. This will likely need to be repeated in 2, 4 and 6 weeks. An exam can be done to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions. Consider having him tested for FeLV and FIV. This is done with a quick in-clinic blood test. Feed a food quality canned kitten food. If he checks out healthy, discuss an appropriate vaccination plan with your veterinarian.
