My overweight cat whines constantly. Is he sick or just hungry?

I have 2 7 year old cats. They are each about 20 lbs. Ranger is heavier, overweight. The last few months he whines all day. They get treats twice a day and soft food at supper , 1/2 can each with dry food always out. Ranger seems like he is bored all day and every time I go into the kitchen he follows me & cries. He surely looks like he is eating enuf! What is wrong? He whines all day. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 7 years and 10 months old | 23 lbs

I would recommend taking Ranger to the veterinarian and have him evaluated. I would first see if he is healthy. I would also discuss his eating habits with your veterinarian. At this time your veterinarian can see if there is any pain or even arthritis going on with Ranger and potentially this is why he is whining. There are prescription diets that work very well for animals that are very overweight and it may be something to try with both of your cats.
