Dog ate tampons, now has diarrhea. Is passing them a good sign?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 105 lbs

My large lab ate several used tampons 3 days ago. He threw up 4, pooped out 2 more. Took to vet and they did xray. No blockage seen in intestines. Been monitoring him since. He pooped out another yesterday and now has diarrhea, but pooped out 1 more today. Acting normal otherwise, eating and drinking. No signs of pain or discomfort. Have vet appointment right away in am. Is it a good sign he is still passing them? Any other advice?

Yep that all sounds very good! I would keep the appointment tomorrow, and feed him boiled chicken and rice today instead of his regular dog food if you are able (may help with the diarrhea), but otherwise it doesn't sound like you need to do anything. Perhaps go shopping for a different style trash can! Glad he's on the mend!

It sounds like you are already doing everything! I would continue to monitor Chubbs per your vet's instructions, and also try to keep any more items out of his reach if he likes to eat them. If he shows any signs of illness, a trip to your vet right away is best.
