Is it safe to clean dried blood near my dog's spay incision after 12 days?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 48 lbs

My dog was spayed 12 days ago. She has some dried blood around her spay site (she has a vaginal infection a vet is treating with antibiotics) is it safe now to clean the area with a damp cloth?

We normally recommend waiting 2 weeks after surgery before bathing/getting the incision wet. If you are just cleaning the area next to the incision with a cloth this would be ok, but I wouldn't clean the actual incision itself for two more days to play it safe.
