Dog won't eat kibble after passing foreign object. ER vet or wait?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi our 11 month year old cattle dog/ golden retiever mix has abruptly stopped being obsessed when it come to his kibble. he has always been glutinous when it comes to feeding time. he still has an interest in treats and other food just not kibble. we did find a maxi pad in his poop but all consistency of passings have been normal. should we take him to the emergency vet or just have them check him tomorrow. or do you adivse anything else. he is not lethargic and does not seem to be in pain.

Hello, thank you for the question. Based on the symptoms that you have described as well as the passage of foreign material in his stool I would recommend having your dog seen by a veterinarian. It is possible that there is more foreign material in his GI tract or he may have residual inflammation from passing something abnormal. It sounds like he seems stable overall, so I think it would be ok to wait to see your regular veterinarian tomorrow. If he develops severe vomiting or any other concerning symptoms overnight I would recommend consulting with an ER veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!
