My puppy has a swollen eye bump. What is it and what should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 months and 12 days old | 44 lbs

My puppy has a bump on the side of his eye. It looks raised/ swollen. He doesn't appear to be in any pain or discomfort currently, and inside his eye looks okay. Any idea what this could be? Anything we could/ should be doing?

Poor guy. I see this a lot in cases of an insect bite. I would recommend antihistamines to help reduce the swelling. Contact your vet for your pets specific recommended antihistamine of choice and dosage since we are not allowed to recommend specific medications to give your pet without first examining him. The antihistamine should help reduce the swelling of my suspicions are correct. Sometimes the swelling will even go down on its own, especially if it doesn’t seem to spread to any other part of Rocket’s body. Best wishes with your pet Rocket and I hope his swelling comes down soon! Take care.
