I tested positive for human parvovirus. Can my dog or family get it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 3 months old | 7 lbs

I tested positive for the parvovirus in my lab work. I’ve had animals all my life and I am not sure how long I have had this. Currently my only furr baby is my 10 year old toy maltipoo, Zoe. She has never had any health issues or illnesses. My question is, can I give her the parvovirus? How dangerous is this situation? Is this harmful for my son? What should I do?

The parvovirus is species specific, so it likely will not pose an issue to Zoe. If she has been vaccinated regularly, the risk is even less. You would need to discuss your lab results with your pwn physician in reference to any risk to your son.
