Why is my cat limping and struggling to jump after spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 7 lbs

My cat got spayed about 2 weeks ago and it is completely healed. But now she walks with a limp and can't pull herself up on furniture anymore which she needs assistance. Earlier she wouldn't even walk and I squeezed her back paw and she didn't do anything I finally got her to walk by shaking her treats and she hasn't moved from where she is since when she used to be pretty mobile. I can't really afford to take her back to the vet. I need answers. She still eats and drinks.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Snickers's care today! Lameness can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. This is not likely related to the spay. This cannot be treated at home without knowing what is going on. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

IT sounds as there is definitely something very wrong with her, you need to take her back to your vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, this is not a normal state 2 weeks after a spay surgery.
