Are my newborn puppies getting enough milk from their nursing mom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs

Hello. Our puppies are now 1 day old.I just wanted to know if they look fed enough? When I squeeze my dogs nipples where her legs are only very little comes out and on most of them even less to nothing at all. And when I removed a puppy from the nipple he didn't have milk around his mouth or face. It was better yesterday. I've seen a video where a puppy got off the nipple and had Milk all over his mouth. Does that mean She is not producing enough Milk for 8 puppies? Should I buy that milk powder?

Hello. Just from your pictures, everyone looks happy & healthy. I have never seen a dog produce so much milk that it smeared all over the puppies face. Most of the time it looks exactly as you describe. You can buy a little gram scale & weigh each puppy once a day & as long as there is no weight loss, all is good. The signs to look for are crying, distressed puppies, crawling away from mom, cold & pale. Your picture shows a very contented mom, & round, pink puppies, so I think all is good right now.
