My dog ate feral kitten poop. Is it serious? When should I call a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shetland Sheepdog | Male | neutered | 9 years and 3 months old | 33 lbs

I think my dog just ate fresh poop from a feral kitten. Should i take him to the vet right away or wait and watch for symptoms?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is unlikely to become an issue. I would just monitor him for any signs of illness such as inappetence, vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy. If any of these are observed, have him evaluated by a veterinarian. Otherwise, he will likely be just fine. Good luck and have a good night!
