My dog with heart failure took double Spironolactone. Is she safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 10 years old | 20 lbs

My cavalier weighing 9 kg has CHF. She is on 2.5mg vetmedin twice a day, 20mg furomicide twice a day & Spironolactone 25mg once a day. This evening I gave her Spironolactone 50mg by accident. This was with her usual vetmedin 2.5mg, 20mg furomicide & 2.5mg furtokor. Will she be Ok?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! She is most likely going to be ok. However, it is very important that you let her veterinarian know since they prescribed the medications so that they can take note of this for the future but also so that they can tell you if based on her medical history, they would like you to make any adjustments. Good luck and have a great day!
