Why is my cat sneezing, coughing, and wheezing after a recent bath?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered

From two days my cat is sneezing and was shivering also sometimes. I made him wear sweater today. But suddenly he was ok few hrs but later suddenly he started making sound like as if he s is unable to breath followed by coughing. I revoked his sweater immediately. Sweater was loose only. I m worried now. Also I made him bath two days back as I saw some lice like things in his hairs. But i kept him in sunlight for an hour just after bath. Please help why he was making wheezing like sound.

He probably has an upper respiratory infection or cold. The sweater wasn’t too tight. It’s very cute! Many cats will cough, sneeze and have trouble breathing through their nose due to congestion. This is due to a virus so no antibiotics are needed. Usually with rest and time Cherry will recover without treatment. If she’s stops eating, or is very congested or lethargic then please take her in for an exam and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Cherry.
