My dog had puppies. What if she didn't bite off their umbilical cords?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs

Leila gave birth to 7 beautiful puppies. I just wanted to know if she did a good job on the cords? Most of them are like this. She's a boxer and she doesn't have that good of a bite.

The umbilical cords should shrivel and fall off on their own, however you can tie off the cords with floss/suture and them trim above them if the mother is unable to do so. The remainder of the cord will then shrivel and fall off on its own.
