My dog has spots and pimples after bladder surgery. Is it yeast?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 7 years old | 13 lbs

Does these brown pepper spots and pimple looking thing look like a yeast infection? My dog just had bladder surgery and was on antibiotics and these appeared along with the round discolored looking circle too.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The little brown spots look like comedones- blackheads essentially. They are usually nothing to worry about. The slightly brownish circle could be related to discoloration from surgical glue, a reaction to the shaving or scrubbing, staining from mild oozing that Bitbit has not been able to clean (because he has a cone on I hope). Or, (less likely in my opinion) a bacterial infection. The little pimple looking thing looks like it is at the very end of the incision and could possibly be an area of irritation where the knot was tied. It could also be a tiny area of inflammation (suture reaction) or a focal infection. In all, it looks pretty good to me. I’d keep the cone on as recommended by your vet and go ib for an incision check if it starts looking worse in any way. (Call ahead but a quick incision check is often no charge at the office where the surgery was done.) Best wIshes to you and Bitbit!
