Puppy bleeding after shots: Is it normal or should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 29 days old | 10 lbs

My male Chihuahua mix puppy is 6 months old and just had his last series of Lepto, Dapp, and Influenza. He is exactly 10 pounds and healthy. Following his previous shots he has been sleepy and loss of appetite along with pain at sight. But I just noticed blood on his bed, I can't tell if it came from injection site or possibly in his urine. The blood was diluted, a pink color. I couldn't find a trace on his fur. Should I seek medical attention or is this normal after vaccinations?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not normal or expected. This is unlikely to be from the injection site. It could have been from his nails or paws which may not be easily evident. It could of course be from anywhere else. If you notice where it is coming from (like coming from the urine) or it continues to happen and you cannot find out where it is coming from, I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. They could perform a very thorough examination to look for a source of bleeding and perform any diagnostics like a urinalysis if needed. Hopefully this is nothing concerning. Good luck and have a good night!
