My new feral kitten hides and won't play. Is he depressed or anxious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | unneutered

My family has been capturing feral kittens for years. I caught this little boy on halloween. It took me a while to get hin close enough. We have now had him a week and he purrs instantly with me. But he doesn't play. When i let him out of his cage he goes into a corner and doesn't move. He has had medicine for worms, flea treatment, and ear mites. But it's almost like he is depressed and I don't know how to get him out of it.

He’s adorable. If he was feral and is now separated from the others he may be anxious and still scared or unsure of his surroundings, especially when he’s taken out of the safe spot in his cage. I’m glad he’s getting medical treatment. I would just be patient, he should learn to relax and eventually play as he becomes more confident in his living situation.
