My adopted cat isn't affectionate after a month. How can we bond?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 months and 6 days old | 4.85 lbs

I adopted my cat a month and a half ago. I do give him proper attention, playtime and also take him for daily walks. I also give him proper affection. But even after a month his physical contact with me like rubbing, head bunting, etc is bare minimum or occasional. Im worried that in the future we won't have proper bonding. Are all kittens of his age like this ?

Some cats are simply more affectionate than others. I recommend not forcing any contact, as this can have a negative effect, but continue to offer toys and treats and try to play and interact. Over time Leo may become more affectionate, but he may not. Using pheromones like Feliway in a diffuser or spray may also help him adjust to the new situation. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=37240
