Why are my dog's eyes watering, stained, and causing him to scratch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 6 days old | 15.87 lbs

What can I do about my dogs watering eyes, pigmentation on the sides of the eye and him scratching and pawing? Thanks.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Cashew evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!
